Week 1 Observations

Opening day of the 2012-2013 NFL Season.

Let’s discuss some the observations gleaned from the 1st set of games.

DAL vs NYG (Thursday game)

Tony Romo to Kevin Olgetree for 6. You might as well get used to that phrase now because the mind-meld both players shared was evident to anyone watching. Ogletree finished with 11 Targets, 8 receptions, 114 yards receiving and 2 TDs.

With last season’s breakout star, DeMarco Murray’s hard running and strong effort of 131 yards rushing on 20 carriers allowed the Cowboys to keep drives alive and precisely assert their game plan.

Here comes the Boom! (proven assets delivering the goods)

Matt Ryan – QB – ATL –  Ryan completed the 1st TD pass of opening Sunday to Julio Jones and the Falcons never looked back. A wonderful game for the high-powered Falcons offense led by Ryan who finished with 299 Yards passing, 3 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD. Fantasy owners of Ryan rejoice!

Julio Jones – WR – ATL – The Falcons put their versatile weapons on display in Week 1 with Julio Jones leading the way with 108 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns on 6 receptions.

Reggie Wayne – WR – IND – Wayne appears to have that Manning-like mental connection with Andrew Luck to finish with 135 yards receiving. Like a breathe of fresh air for Colt’s fans abound.

Rising Stars (surprise performances)
Robert Griffin III – QB – WAS – Huge 1st game in the NFL – 320 yards passing! Redskin’s fans have been waiting a long time for a commander on the field! Chants of RG3 could be heard from the rafters and couches alike. RG3!

P. Garcon – WR – WAS – Recipient of RG3’s explosive performance. Like peas and carrots, this is a combo that you will want to have every weekend.

Stephen Hill – WR – NYJ – A favorite target of Mark Sanchez to the tune of 2 touchdowns, look for great things from this rookie in the coming games.

Steven Ridley – RB – NWE – Welcome to NFL Opening Sunday Steven Ridley. Running to the tune of 125 yds with 1 touchdown on 23 carriers. Tack on 27 yards on 2 receptions and Ridley looks to be the perfect balance to the Patriots Air attack of Brady, Gronk, and the rest of the super friends. Cash in on Ridley’s rise!

Falling Stars (less than awesome performances)
Rashad Jennings – RB – JAC – An underwhelming performance with an early exit due to a knee injury. It appears that Jenning’s time in the Starting position was short-lived indeed.

NO Offense – Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham displayed the highlight-level receptions of last season but that was the extent of the NO Offense in Week. Late game heroics aside, look for Brees and gang to bounce back in Week 2 but work is needed to tighten up the ship.

M. Stafford – QB – DET – 3 INTs in the 1st half alone, Stafford and crew had some execution problems coming out of the locker room.
